Singapore’s marquee running event recognised for Best Use of Social Media, and Best Sports Participation / Amateur Event.

12 October 2015, Singapore – Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore has once again proven to be the apex of mass participation and amateur sports in the region as it took home three honours at two regional award ceremonies last week.

The Marathon, which attracts well over 50,000 participants and many more spectators, was recognised by the industry with a Gold Award in the Best Sport Participation / Amateur Event category  at the inaugural Sports Industry Awards & Conference (SPIA Asia) . The prestigious event was held at Manila’s New World Makati Hotel on 2 October.

Adding to the success, Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2015’s digital and social media efforts were also lauded at the event for its creative use of social through its ground-breaking digital queue, which won a Silver in the Use of Social Media category. The innovative digital campaign gave the increasingly digital savvy public an opportunity to secure their places and golden jubilee bibs in the marathon through the virtual universe ahead of the official launch, elevating the participant experience to a whole new level.

The digital queue, which created a viral effect organically, rewarded users with points accumulated through social media engagement with the hashtags #SCMS2015 and #DigitalQueue.
The effectiveness of this online campaign was clear as it received over 30,000 social media posts and across facebook, twitter and instagram, with winner Chen Han Wen accumulating over 48,000 points over a one week span.

The collaboration between organisers Spectrum Worldwide, and digital agency Socialyse of Havas media received further recognition when it won its second accolade on the same night, with a Gold at the Marketing Events Awards 2015 in Singapore.

Commenting on their wins, Spectrum Worldwide Marketing Director Thibault Vellard said:

“The marathon has always been the people’s race, and we’re glad we’ve been recognised for initiatives that continue to enhance the experience for the participants. We’re very delighted with the results of the digital queue and would like to thank everyone who has played a role in its success. As event organisers, we’re very proud to have our efforts recognised on a regional scale, a strong testament to what we’ve achieved with the marathon over the years.
